Doctoral studies are organized according to the following stages:
- The program of advanced academic training (PPUA) is organized during the first semester of the doctoral study program and consists in covering the curricula of three compulsory subjects, chosen by the doctoral student together with his/her coordinator. This program aims at improving the doctoral students’ specialized training and at introducing them into the specificities of scientific research. PPUA is completed by proposing a “Project of the Scientific Research Program”, which includes the doctoral student’s aims regarding the doctoral program and must be defended within the specialized department;
- The scientific research program (PCS) consists in attending two elective subjects and writing three research reports proposed by the Ph.D. coordinator in collaboration with the doctoral student. PCS is completed by writing the doctoral thesis.
- The doctoral thesis is first defended within the department and then in public. After the public defense of the thesis the title of “Doctor” is awarded.
The program of advanced academic training (PPUA) is organized during the first semester of the doctoral study program and consists in covering the curricula of three compulsory subjects (DO1 – Disciplines of complementary training, DO2 – Disciplines of general technical training, and DO3 – Disciplines of specialized technical training), which provide further knowledge necessary for doctoral studies, as well as a unitary vision and management skills for developing the scientific research programs. The doctoral student chooses the disciplines recommended by the Ph.D. coordinator, so that they would be later useful for the scientific research program. At the end of the advanced training program, the doctoral student presents a Project of the Scientific Research Program. This includes the doctoral student’s aims and the expected progress of that stage of scientific research, as well as the presentation of the elective disciplines, the doctoral reports and the progresses in writing the doctoral thesis. The Project of the Scientific Research Program is defended within the department, where it is evaluated by a specialized committee, and then it is handed it to the secretary of the Doctoral School.
The scientific research program is organized individually, for each doctoral student, for five semesters, and consists in:
- Covering the curricula of two elective subjects, recommended by the Ph.D. coordinator from the field of specialization;
- Writing and defending three research reports indicated by the Ph.D. coordinator (one per semester, for the following three semesters). The research reports may be parts of the doctoral thesis and may have the following topics (the topics are not compulsory and the doctoral student is not bound to choose from the recommended titles, which can be adapted to the specificity of each research paper): o Documentation. The current stage in the analyzed field at the national level; o Experimental research;
- Writing and defending the doctoral thesis during the final stage of the scientific research program. The elective subjects are presented by the doctoral student in front of a committee composed of the Ph.D. coordinator, as a chairman, and two members of the specialized department. The research reports are defended in a public assembly of the department and are evaluated by a committee composed of the Ph.D. coordinator, as a chairman, and two members of the specialized department.
The doctoral thesis is written at the end of the scientific research program and contains the main elements of the doctoral student’s documentation and research, carried out under the supervision of the Ph.D. coordinator. The doctoral thesis can also be written under joint supervision, based on an agreement of the institutions which the two Ph.D. coordinators belong to.
