Communication on UTCB activity in the period March 12-31, 2020

3 September 2025

Taking into account the measures adopted by the competent authorities at national level to reduce the risk of spreading the infection caused by COVID -19 (Coronavirus), the Technical University of Constructions Bucharest temporarily suspends, from March 12-31, 2020, face-to-face teaching activities, with the possibility of extension.

The UTCB Board of Directors decided this measure on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, in order to prevent the occurrence of cases of illness among students and teachers. The decision implies the temporary suspension of all face-to-face teaching activities, as well as the cancellation of organized extra-curricular activities that are generating a large number of participants (such as open days, open weeks, colloquia, conferences, book launches, lectures, workshops, sports competitions, performances a.c.).

If students wish to avoid the crowds in the UTCB dormitories, we recommend that they travel to their hometowns during the suspension of online courses, gradually, in order to avoid blocking road and rail transportation. The UTCB canteen remains open on a catering basis. Activities in the Sports Hall are canceled from March 12-31. Doctoral School activities can also be carried out by teleconference.

Teaching activities on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 are suspended and will be made up at a later date. These two days will be used by teachers and technical support staff to prepare online teaching activities. From Monday 16 March this year, teaching activities will be organized online, and activities that cannot be provided online via electronic platforms will be made up according to a schedule to be established. Teaching and research activities are not suspended. Consequently, teaching, auxiliary and non-teaching staff will be present at the University throughout March.

The structures that ensure the administrative and research activities of UTCB continue to work on a staggered schedule. The employees are asking the beneficiaries of these activities to use the online system as much as possible to send materials, documents, papers, reducing face-to-face contact with support staff. For the payment of hostel and document fees by bank transfer, the corresponding IBAN accounts will be made available on the UTCB website.

These measures are applied within the broad framework of the prevention decisions that are already being put into practice at the University, namely: informing members of the UTCB community about the national prevention measures, ensuring hygiene standards (with the supply and distribution of hygiene products), in order to reduce the risk of spreading the infection caused by Coronavirus, in compliance with the provisions of the Decision on the approval of additional measures to combat the new Coronavirus, adopted on Monday by the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations (Decision no. 6/09.03.2020), and of the address issued by MEC – Directorate General for Higher Education No. 98/DGIU/10.03.2020 regarding the recommendations made by the Ministry of Education and Research in the context of the urgency of measures to prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19.
