THURSDAY 23.02.2023 WORKSHOP “EFFECTIVE INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING” – PART II

3 September 2025

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice a set of interpersonal communication methods and tools that aim to make their communication more effective and impactful both in their relations WITH their close work group and with the various partners in the wider circle of professional INTERACTIONS.

The workshop is addressed to utcb teachers and administrative staff, teachers and PhDs, in the broader context of developing competences for CHALLENGE BASED LEARNING.

The following topics will be covered:

Difficult conversations: How to have conversations about things we find hard to talk about

Asking for a raise. Ending a relationship. Giving a critical performance review. Say no to someone who needs help. Confront disrespectful or hurtful behavior. Disagree with the majority in a group. Apologizing. At work, at home and over the fence, difficult conversations are tried or avoided every day.

Both in negotiations and in everyday life, for good or bad reasons, we often don’t talk to each other and don’t want to. And sometimes when we do talk, things get worse. Feelings – anger, guilt, hurt – get magnified. We become more and more sure we are right, and so do those we disagree with. This is the realm of difficult conversations and why we need to learn how to become good at having them. We explore what makes conversations difficult, why we avoid them and why we often approach them badly.
