This year we have the honor to have with us at the Doctoral School Conference, several reputed guests.
Since 2010 Volker Schwieger is professor and head of the Institute of Engineering Geodesy (IIGS), Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy, at the University of Stuttgart. He studied Geodesy in Hannover and received his Dr.-Ing. from the University of Hannover and his Habilitation form the University of Stuttgart. He was Dean of the faculty and member of the senate of the University of Stuttgart. In 2011 he was appointed as member of the German Geodetic Commission (DGK) of Germany at the Bavarian Academy of Science, currently he is heading the department of Engineering Geodesy of the DGK. He is very active at FIG (International Federation of Surveyors), he is member of the Commission 5 “Positioning and Measurement”, and chaired it for 4 years. Finally, he was appointed Honorary Member of the FIG in 2022. In 2019 he was honoured by the Dr. h.c. from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest.
Since 2019 he is one of the PIs of the Centre of Excellence “Integrated and Computational Design and Construction for Architecture” (IntCDC) funded be the German Research Foundation (DFG). He and his team are working on positioning and geometry foundations and applications in Construction, Architecture, Transport and Aerospace Engineering. He is member of several Editorial Journal Boards; he authored and co-authored more than 200 publications and successfully supervised 15 Ph.D.
Dr. Marie Verrielle Duncianu is an Associate Professor at IMT Nord Europe. After a Master degree in Analytical Chemistry in 2008 from Normandie University, she obtained in 2011 a PhD from Lille University in atmospheric science. She developed a sensorial and instrumental approach to assess odors and emissions from automotive parts. In 2012 she was recruited as Assistant Professor at Institut Mines Telecom to reinforce the research activity on indoor air quality. She defended her research habilitation in 2022. Her research activities are based on advanced knowledge in atmospheric sciences applied to two socio-economic and health issues: indoor air quality and environmental odor nuisances. It covers several strategic domains: (i) the metrological development for the sampling and measurement of (odorous) VOCs; (ii) the understanding the key determinants of indoor air quality; (iii) the investigation of indoor air pollution remediation solutions; and (iv) the development of approaches based on objectivized olfactory analysis to manage odour environmental nuisances. She is currently author and co-author of 32 research papers and supervised 15 PhD theses.
Claudiu Cherciu is a young engineer passionate about space and technology. His path in the aerospace field began in his high school and university years, by participating in competitions organized by NASA and ESA. Then, he worked as a research engineer at the Institute of Space Science. After a 2-year training period at ESA’s Space Operations Center, Claudiu returned to Romania to continue his professional development at Romanian InSpace Engineering. He currently coordinates the Engineering Department, being involved in the development of products and technologies for space.
